There are a range of requirements that J&D Contracting Staff and Supervisors must familiarize themselves with before conducting works at an education facility.
You must ensure that the school administration is contacted before commencing any works to discuss specific requirements around:
Preferred work times and if works can be conducted outside class hours
Contractor induction and sign in
Shutting off essential services (water, sewerage, electricity, internet)
Restricting site access with barricading, temporary fencing etc.
Handover process when work is completed
Your responsibilities as a J&D Contracting Supervisor when working at schools
School projects present challenges because they are often taken in areas where there are multiple concurrent activities other than construction occurring. Supervisors have additional responsibilities for ensuring that a coordinated approach occurs on school sites.
This means:
1. Establishing a secure perimeter for the project (our work areas need to be kid proof)
2. Co-ordinating deliveries to ensure they do not align with peak school traffic periods.
3. Quantifying at the commencement of the project that no hazardous materials like asbestos can be disturbed (even accidentally) by the works.
4. Engaging with the school management team and other stakeholders daily to ensure that there is a clear line of communication regarding activities and risks.
5. Following DOE Requirements.
